Help adding Airport Ex B/G to new Airport N

Recently replaced my round Airport Extreme b/g with a new Airport n. However the signal is weak upstairs in my son's room where he play's Xbox. How can I, or can I, extend my wireless network using the older AP express? I haven't been able to figure it out... and would prefer not to spend the money on an Express. The Expreme N is connected via my cable modem.
Can someone walk me through the process?

Your best bet is to move the Airport Extreme upstairs. Wireless routers are best positioned centrally within your home and as high up as possible - even if the goal is to improve signal in your basement.

Keep in mind you will be taking a speed hit when a computer connects to the upstairs AE B/G.

Another question comes to mind. Does the new AE N "throttle down" its speed to communicate with the slower "router extension"?
