I have an OS X 10.6.8 Server acting as a PDC for a couple Windows machines. I'm now running a 2003 Server as a VM. its a secondary DNS server pulling it records from the OS X Server and it's currently joined to the domain. But I want to try and make it a domain controller connected to the OS X PDC. Is this possible?

I wouldn't think so since the DCPromo process of creating a domain controller requires an actual active directory.

I'm not sure the SMB PDC in OS X has all of that information.

I would down the VM, make a copy of it then give it a try. Worse case is it fails right? Be sure you have a complete backup of the OS X server too incase the DCPromo process breaks it.

Post back, I'm curious.
