OS X Disk Maybe No Uses Left??

I was going to use my os x 10.5.6 disk for my new hard drive but it might be out of uses. Its only been used once. Is there a way to tell if it still works without trying it on the computer? I need to know if I need to get another disk while ordering my hard drive.

Is there a way to find out if it is the family pack?
It does say something in the back of the install booklet about being able to make one copy for personal use. Is this possible?

Mac OS install disks don't have a "fixed" number of uses. The only reasons why a Mac OS install disk won't work is:

- if it's damaged
- the optical drive in the computer is damaged
- the OS version on the disk is not compatible with the computer
- it's a "drop-in" disk which requires a previous OS version to be installed before it will work
- a silver/gray colored OS install disk that DID NOT come with the computer. These gray/silver disks are model specific...and only work on the computer they shipped with.

Ok. It is the black disk with the big x on it. It was purchased after the computer. Thanks. I just thought it might not work because of something I read.

That disk should work fine.

p.s. Just because something is written (and was read)...does not mean that it's true! Apple OS install disks have NEVER (since 1984) had a fixed number of uses.
