I have the 2010 15 MBP i7, thinking hard about getting an SSD, definitely thinking an OWC.

I know I have only 3G support, but wondered if I should get a 6G to future proof, since I tend to upgrade every 2 years or so (this spring :) )

the 240gig size seems the sweet spot dollar wise, there's the 3g mercury extreme at 359, then the 6G mercury electra at 389, and the mercury extreme 6G at 459.

any wise words before I warm up the visa?

I'd go with the 6Gbps. If you upgrade you'll have the SATA III port and be stuck with the 3Gbps speeds if you don't.

i'm thinking you're right

my only thought was, if prices fall on ssd, by the time I upgrade, the 4806g might be significantly cheaper.

You should look at the Crucial M4 256GB as well. It's a bit cheaper than the OWC 240GB, has great firmware/performance and ratings. Crucial is also a "Mac-friendly" vendor.

I've been using one for a little over a week now and couldn't be happier with it. $369 at Amazon.com.
