Hello its been awhile since I've been on these forums,

I have a powerbook g4 1.67 that I bought on ebay for basic internet, email, and MS office when I'm at school away from my Mac Pro. Shortly after buying it the DC-Charging board went and I took it to apple for repair. During the repair the logic board fried. They replaced the logic board (so new cpu and gpu), the dc-charging board, and the bottom half of the case. I was only charged for the dc-board. I now have a basically brand new powerbook for $50.

it has 1.5 GB of RAM. Would upgrading it to the max 2GB make a difference for OSX 10.5?

It currently has the OEM 80 GB 5400 rpm HD. Would a modern 5400 rpm drive be faster? Are any solid state drives made for ATA100 interfaces?

Lastly, where do you recommend getting a replacement battery from? I am only getting a hour from a full charge.

Thanks,
Robert

Wouldn't bother with the HD, as you wouldn't see much of an increase in speed. The RAM however might be worth it if you're running 10.5.

alright everyone thanks for the help. The powerbook will be getting a SSD and RAM.

I'm assuming that SSD are more forgiving than normal HD's in terms of temperature changes and vibrations due to no moving parts?

Suggest not vibrating any hard drive if at all possible and SSD's run much cooler than platter drives. In a Mac Pro SSD 27ºC compared to Velociraptor 34ºC.
