iTunes alternatives?

Hey guys, I know this question has probably been asked to death, but I'm finally sick of iTunes. I have 90,000+ songs in my library, running from a portable hard-drive, and iTunes renders my MacBook completely unusable when I'm playing music.

I understand that playing so much music from a hard-drive isn't going to run 100% smoothly, but there must be a media player that can handle it - I've tried Songbird and Cog (similar performance issues) and Winamp for Mac (works fine, but incredibly basic - doesn't even have a shuffle option), and I have yet to find any decent way of playing my music.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Well you've tried the best alternatives to be honest, but to be fair, you shouldn't have issues running from an external HD, even if it were USB1, which is very unlikely.
I run all my (30,000) tunes from an external to my iMac, and then via wi-fi to my amp via Airport Express, and have no glitchy playback at all.
So, how full is your portable drive? How full is your Macbook HD? Have you trun any routine maintenance proceedures at all (disk utility to verify permissions and HD's for example)?

I noticed you said portable HD and is the MacBook running on battery or plugged in to the power supply when this happens.
