Hidden/Locked Files

I just recently upgraded my work Mac to Lion. I'm seeing a really weird issue where I save files to my desktop and the files aren't there.

For example, I receive an image file and save it to my desktop, go to my desktop and the image isn't there. I can search through spotlight, it finds the file, I preview the file and it says it's locked. As soon as I unlock it shows up on the desktop.

This is happening with files I receive as well as files I create myself. Any thoughts?

Boot Lion to the Recovery Partition. (Hold down the OPTION key during the boot process and select the Recovery Partition.) From the Recovery Partition select Disk Utilities. Now select "repair permissions". After that finishes, reboot back to Lion. Let us know if that fixes it.
