I have an HP OfficeJet 6500 multi-function printer and my MacBook Pro running OS X v.10.5.8. I don't have the installation CD for the printer, and can't figure out how to find the proper driver to download to get the printer and the computer to communicate. Can anyone help, please?

Can you be a little more specific with the type of printer? A search for "OfficeJet 6500" on HP's website yielded 5 results (e710a, e710n, e709a, e709n, e709q).

Uh, yeah, that's a huge thing in and of itself. I can give you a product number (I think that's what it is), but there's no "e" numbers on the machine itself.... <scratching my head and wishing I'd remembered to grab that silly disc when I had the chance>

The more information we have, the better.

All of them have Mac drivers so that shouldn't be a problem. Here is a link to each of the five listed printers. Hopefully it becomes obvious which one you have when you look at each of the pages:

E710a
E710n
E709a
E709n
E709q

The first two in that list are OfficeJet 6500A printers so that may (or may not) help narrow things down.

Thanks. I'm trying it again, having uninstalled the driver I had previously installed (I think that might have been the problem. We'll see.)

Wow!! That's quite amazing if you're all up to date and that suggestion was from over four years ago… amazing that it still worked…
