Saving Streamed TV data

I have a slingbox fitted to a virgin cable box which streams tv programs to my IMAC 27inch located in Cyprus, my problem is that Virgin throttles back the upload during the evenings due to their traffic management policy. I am therefore looking to stream programs during the day and save to an external hard drive for viewing when the internet is being traffic managed. I need to be able to select tv programs from the virgin menu and set to record at either a set time or from playback. Any advice would be gratefully received.
