Can anyone explain to me why my mac indexes my USB stick? It seems to slow everything down. Is it necessary. I'm grateful for any explanation but please keep it simple - I get easily confused by technical talk!

You can exclude the nerd stick from indexing in the Spotlight system preference.

It does this so that if you leave that stick in for a while, and you search for something on your computer through spotlight, spotlight can quickly retrieve everything on your computer, including all the data on that disk.
