How to print from iPad to Canon Pixma MP497

Hi gurus, pls advise - i hv an iPad, V1, and bought a wifi printer ( Canon pixma). I downloaded the Canon app iEpp. Wireless LAN is enabled on the printer, but link status is inactive - no instructions from canon on how to enable this link. When I launched the canon app on iPad, and tried to detect the printer wirelessly, the msg said 'printer cannot be found'. Help! What shd I do, many thks!
