New mac user Need advice Please

Hi guys i am a new mac user... I have a macbook pro with osx lion... Just wondering do i need to perform maintenance on it like a windows pc... i.e. deleting temp files,cookies, unwanted files etc etc etc

This can be done periodically. A good free program for doing it is called "Onyx".
