Hello,

I have MS Word 2008 for MAC on my laptop. I am having problems opening a file from a friend in Word- it only opens in compatibility mode and all of the formatting is off. The computer is telling me that she is using a PC Word version older than 2008. How do I convert her file and any future files? I saw a similar post but they suggested a program called Appleworks that is now obsolete. Help!

What version of Windows Word was the file created with? Your Word 2008 should be able to read and open any Windows Word file from XP to 2010. Earlier versions of Windows Word (Word 95, 97, 2000) may require a filter.

As far as formatting goes, there's no guaranty especially with the older versions that it will be correct.
