This isn't a helpful response, I know, but the letters reversing order just struck me as amusing since, as you obviously well know, written Hebrew is right to left rather than left to right.

That makes me ask, how does it work with Modern Hebrew and computers?
Which convention does it follow?

Not sure what you mean by convention
I mean convention as in accepted practice.

One of the accepted conventions in the west is that we start at the top of a sheet of paper and write moving downward with each line, rather than starting at the bottom and going upward, which would be just as logical.

In this case the convention I was asking about was right to left vs left to right

Our regular members read most of the threads, in particular if there are multiple posts (like in this one).

If one of them has an answer (sorry I don't) they will almost certainly post it.

EDIT: and there you go. Answered while I was typing.

How about telling us which program you're trying to use the Hebrew keyboard with? The reason I'm asking is that there are only certain programs that will even support right to left character placement.

The US English Office suites including MS Office do not support right to left character placement. Only Mellel as far as I'm aware supports it.
