Anti Aliased Edges in Illustrator CS5

Hello, I am having trouble with anti aliased edges in Illustrator CS5. The edges are anti aliased, but the pixels do not blend into the background, resulting in a visually jarring grey outline. I am working with a 2011 15 inch Macbook Pro running on Lion OSX.

I have a attached an enlarged screenshot of the grey outline in Illustrator CS5.
