• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Video Card for Motion V1.0

Hi All,

im helping a friend get his mac up and running with production suite and he needs a new video card to run motion V1. The requirements ask for a FX5200 ultra or a 6800 ultra for nvidia GPU's.

My question is, are there specific video cards for MAC and PC or does the one card work on both platforms? Is this the same for ATI cards?

From what i have read on the mac website the drivers for nvidia cards are built into the O.S updates.

Any help would be appreciated.

Mac video cards are specific, the firmware on the card has to talk to the firmware on the machine it is designed for.

Mac specific cards are a little more expensive than the PC equivelents but that is no different from the case for all other low quantity machines (i.e try buying a card for a Sun workstation and see how much they cost!).

there are forums with hacked bioses and guides on taping the pins etc... some have mixed results, but if youve gotta spare card lying aorund

the GeForce 5200 is pretty worthless IMO, and everything runs on it fine for me.
