My internet connection keeps shutting down randomly.

The past 2 days it's disconnected more or less straight after connecting.

Here's the log entry and this is about a minute into connection time:

Sat Oct 29 10:15:50 2005 : No response to 4 echo-requests
Sat Oct 29 10:15:50 2005 : Serial link appears to be disconnected.
Sat Oct 29 10:15:56 2005 : Connection terminated.
Sat Oct 29 10:15:56 2005 : Connect time 1.9 minutes.
Sat Oct 29 10:15:56 2005 : Sent 5953 bytes, received 8659 bytes.
Sat Oct 29 10:16:06 2005 : Serial link disconnected.
Sat Oct 29 10:16:45 2005 : Version 2.1

Any ideas cos' I'm new to this, totally!

If you're new to this I doubt you have a serial like to the internet.

What type of internet connection?
What type of network gear are you using? (modem/router/etc)

I just bought this G5 2.0MHz 2" and it has an inbuilt modem which I'm using cos' I only have dial-up.

When the connection was terminated I saw a box telling me that it was terminated because the other side did not respond.

Is it a secondary phone line for internet or is it your primary phone line? You might have a noisy line.

Call your ISP or phone company.

If you get the message that "the other side did not respond" then that is your ISP - meaning that "the other side" is your ISP server response to the modem handshake (or connection).

You can test this by using a reliable standard ISP that allows you pay internet calls via your phone bill for (not one that you have to have a contract with) - in other words, a simple ISP with a dial-in number that appears as a phone call on your bill.

If you are in America (as most users on here are) I am unsure of the ISPs available that do this, but in the UK, any 0854 ISP will do.

If you do not get cut-offs to the same level, then it is your original ISP that is experiencing problems.

The line is the primary and has been used for dial-up for the past 2 yrs on a PC but now the Mac is the internet computer.
