Hi.

I just bought a 2tb Internal WD hdd and did the following

- connected internally to my PC
- completely formatted under Windows as single NTFC (not quick format)
- copied 800gb of data
- disconnected from my PC and connected to an External casing
- connected to my Mac through Firewire800 port

Here is the problem, my Mac says it CANNOT READ the connected drive and asked me to INITIALIZE. When i did, it showed my disk on my "Disk Utility" but couldn't able to read anything.

Wiredly, text "OEM" was added to my Disk name.

Any help.
Thanks in advance.

Real quick question, what version of OSX is on that Mac?

I have ran into an issue under OSX Lion with certain external hard drive cases using Firefire 800 and NTFS format where the drive would not mount. Does the enclosure have USB?

This might not be your issue but worth a try if you are running 10.7 Lion!

Running Leopard 10.5 on my MacBookPro

Yes, the enclosure has Usb, Firewire400, Firewire800, Esata. I used to connect 1.5TB hdd via Firewire800,
without any problem. But my new 2TB started having problem.

Ok then that is not the issue as it's only been with Lion. 10.5 should read NTFS. It just will not stock Write to NTFS.

So with that plugged into the Mac FW800, Disk Utility will not partition or Erase it? Did you try the partition Tab in DU?

I should be able to Erase, Format and Partition using Disk Utility,
but am not doing that, because the disk has just been formatted under
Windows and 856GB of data's has been copied inside.

I hope someone is still browsing this thread....

I have a similar issue with a 2tb external Seagate GoFlex USB. My issue is that (from the Mac) it will not format except MS-DOS (FAT). I wanted to format the drive with Mac OS Extended (Journaled) - what I get when I try is

"Disk Erase Failed with the error: File System formatter failed.

The drive was originally connected to a Windows 7 machine formatted NTFS. I then connected it to the MAC and learned that you can read NTFS on OSX but you can't write to it wthout some 3rd party app. So I decided to backup the 400G of data I had then wipe the drive and try the MAC way - to no avail.

Ideas, suggestions?
