I purchased MS office home and student 2007 via web download for a windows PC. I have the ability to download and activate another licensed copy with the product key.

Now that I have switched is it possible for me to download this on my iMac? Will it be compatible? Or, was this the windows only version?

It doesn't indicated anywhere on my order confirmation email that contains the product key whether it is for Windows or Mac.

Way... way too many specs to list.
Office 2007 isn't available for the Mac. Office 2008 and 2011 are the Mac versions. (as opposed to 2007 and 2010)

Office 2007 is Windows only. It will not run or install on your Mac unless you run it in a Windows VM (Parallels, Fusion) or from a Boot Camp partition.

Here's the order of Office versions:

Office 2003 = Windows

Office 2004 = Mac OS X

Office 2007 = Windows

Office 2008 = Mac OS X

Office 2010 = Windows

Office 2011 = Mac OS X

Thanks for the information. I will purchase Microsoft office for the mac then. I'm glad that i did not attempt to install my 2007 product key on the new iMac.

My girlfriend is also looking for a copy of office for her MBP. Is there any way to get a 2 for 1 deal on buying microsoft office for mac? Are we better of each purchasing a single copy separately?

Check the licensing agreement, it may allow for two installs.. as your previous one does.

The EULA for the Home and Student version of Office 2008 is very generous. You can install it on up to 6 machines.... 1 notebook, 1 desktop, x 3 (no activation)

However, Office 2011 requires the purchase of the 3 install version of Home and Student if you need to install it on more than one machine. The business and standard versions are strictly one install only. Also, Office 2011 must be activated.

office 2008

I updated my office 2008 not knowing it'll uninstall itself....I can't find the license code and desperately need to work on some documents. Is there a way to retrieve that license from the laptop to reinstall?

Please advise..

Also, anyone with multiple licenses should please help me out :)

Installing Office 2011 doesn't remove 2008 nor does updating 2008 remove itself. What did you do to update your copy of Office such that it was uninstalled?

Also, licence keys are restricted by the EULA - you can't "borrow" them from someone else.

There was an automatic update of microsoft office requesting to update the product which I accepted. Afterwards, I tried to open a word document and I got pop-up message saying my product licence is wrong and i should reinstall the office 2008.

I got this office 2008 licence from a colleague who had 3 licences so I'm assuming it's possible to get unused ones.

I'm really new to the mac world and a lot of things are challenging.
Can you explain more on the EULA restrictions.

I don't know what version of 2008 you have (Home & Student, Business, etc.) but I know that the H&S one requires that keys be used by people in the same family. You can't just go out and about handing out the extra keys.

As the OP of this thread I wanted to follow up and report which action I chose. I decided to purchase the office 2011 home and student for mac (3 installs). I found a deal on Amazon. It cost $94.99 regularly $149.99. I bought this today (cyber monday) SWEEEEET!

Now, I don't know if I need to buy pages for os x or not. Since I spit the cost of office with my girlfriend so $50 for office. Pages is $20.

Personally - if you have Office - I wouldn't bother with Pages. The only exception I made was I did buy Keynote - just because it looks superior in some aspects to PPT.

As BrianLachoreVPI noted, there is no reason to buy Pages. Word will do the job 99% of the time. Even when Pages might be better, Word will still handle the job.
