extend ipod cord?

in my car i have an ipod hook up. the problem is that the cord is only about a foot long. i was wondering if there is anyway to extend this cord?

sure, chop it up and splice it together with some longer wire

what kind of wire? Is it a dock connector or a minijack?

dock connector. but i do not want to actually mess with the plug that is there now. i was thinking something that would just clip on to extend the cord.

maybe this will help, I saw in the back of the new macworld magazine for an add that had a bunch of ipod cables and such and i think i saw a dock extender cable, but I dont know where my mag is at the moment
