iBook G4 sudenly can't find eBay!

Not sure what's going on here. My brother has a 1.42 GHz G4 iBook, 512MB, running OS X 10.4.11. Since Sunday, when he last used eBay, he can't get to the eBay site at all! Both Safari 4.1.3 and Firefox 3.6.24 give the message that they can't find the server for eBay. It doesn't matter what link he tries to use from Google. NO other sites seem to be having any problems.

Yet using the same internet connection, my own 1.67 GHZ G4 Powerbook can find and log into eBay no problem. Can anyone tell me what's going on here please? I've seen forum entries elsewhere that there were Safari problems with ebay a few years ago.

Please help me understand what might be before I go insane!!! lol

He may have faulty DNS settings. Go to System Preferences > Network > (the connection in use) > Advanced > DNS. What DNS servers are listed? Compare that to yours. If you both are at home on the same wi-fi router, then the server listed should be the IP address of your router, and the router itself has the DNS server for your ISP.

Ebay not working

That's so funny, that's exactly what's happened to my iBook this evening!! Was using Ebay fine yesterday. Was browsing earlier today got a message from Open DNS which i have followed, perhaps stupidly, and set up. Since then I get server not found messages on Safari and Firefox, so I suppose it's altered my DNS, but it's only affecting Ebay - isn't that strange. My mum's pc is working fine and gets Ebay no trouble, just mine. Not confident enough to know how to change it back to the correct DNS. In my network configuration there's nothing listed in the DNS box, it's greyed out. Can anyone give me an idiots guide, please. Many thanks

Contact your ISP and ask them for DNS server addresses, both primary which you enter first by hitting the little + box in DNS, then + again and secondary address.

Hi thanks for that, could I put the OPen DNS servers in? Will that help or is that's what's causing the problem? I found them on the net 195.40.1.36 and 212.135.1.36. What actual difference does having them in the network configuration make, and why does it only effect Ebay? I don't understand
