I have a Mac Pro Quad 2.66 2009 Nehalem and a MacBook Pro 2008 2.4 Penryn both have the calDiget USB 3.0 cards. the problem is the USB 3.0 is actually a tad slower than FW800. Has anyone experienced this? They both have the proper drivers and report in profiler.

Hi ,
No problem here.
On a Macpro dual 6 core(2010) the CalDigit USB 3.0 PCI-Express card is twice the speed of FW800 using a Sata 3 harddisk

Well on my Mac Pro quad 2,66 Nehalem the external Verbatim USB 3.0 F/W800 500 GB shirt drive did a 115 GB CCC at 2.29 GB's per min on the F/W 800 port and the USB 3.0 port produced 1.99 GB's per min. I returned the drive and the new one does 115 GB CCC at 1.99 GB's per min on the F/W 800 port and the USB 3.0 port produced 3 GB's per min. I was expecting faster performance. Can the HDD make a difference here?
