My DVD Player is a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-112D with Revision: 1.21.
I just now noticed that it won't play music (aiff) CDs, MP3 CDs and won't even see a CDR blank.

What's so weird is that it plays DVDs just fine. For that reason I'm thinking it must have something to do with some System files or software Prefs.

Anyone have any ideas?

Clean the laser. DVD and CD have different sized "grooves" if you like, spaces between the data, and sometimes the laser can read one but not the other.
Ultimately though, I would say that it's on it's way out.

Hi Kevriano,
I tried using a Kensington disc cleaner but the player couldn't 'see' it. Can the laser be accessed in order to use a 'Q-Tip'?

The best way to clean the optical light reader is by blowing clean compressed air into the drive. Do not use a Q-Tip as that will damage the drive. Cleaning disks seldom work and may even become trapped in the drive. Buy a can of compressed air and use that instead. A couple of short blasts in the drive should blow away any dirt or dust. If that doesn't work, the drive may have to be replaced.
