When I boot my macbook, there is this window indicating with which user you want to log in, right? I have always wander what is the meaning of the number right beside your name (7). Here is a pic of what Im talking about.

My guess is there was or is many MacBooks with the same name.
You can change the name in the Sharing system preference.
There may also be an issue with your DHCP server.
