Help Please...

I have come back to my Macbook Air 10.5.8 1.6 Ghz after a few days away and it is behaving weirdly. Running incredibly slow, even typing is laboured, and getting the spinning coloured ball all the time, opening mail, a browser or anything. Any ideas or suggestions as to what I can do would be gratefully appreciated,

Thanks. I followed the link and did as suggested. In my activity monitor all is normal....I still have problems even the typing is delayed. I would be grateful for any other suggestions or feedback
