My wife wants to follow my lead and switch to Mac. But, she does all her work on Windows using Excel and Word and she's worried that she will no longer be able to use either of them or be as proficient using a Mac 'equivalent'. I really don't want to mention Boot Camping Windows because I now think Windows just plain sucks in comparison and I'd rather her go solely OSX.

What should i tell her about Excel, Word or Windows Office in general and OSX?

They do have Office for Mac. It is slightly different. >_>" I would probably get it for your Mac and let her test it out first before jumping ship all together. Causing her to be being all frustrated and regretting it all together later.

MS even offers a demo on their website. Download it, install it and let her fool around with it.

Word is pretty much identical - at least I haven't run into any differences. Excel - not quite the same but it just depends on how she uses it normally. Worst case - just install Windows in a VM and she can work there when she needs to.

One word. If you decide to go with Office 2011 and purchase it either in download or disc form, make sure you uninstall the demo version. The installer should probably do that but there have been some reports of problems after using the demo.

Give me a PM for an uninstaller if need be.

Can you not enter a valid key from the demo? Seems like something MS should have added.

I think you can, I seem to remember even the full retail disc asks you on install to enter your key or have a 30 day trial

I use office 2011 for mac at home and Office on windows when I'm at the lab at school...seamless integration, if you can use one you can use the other. I routinely save my files on my mac, put them on a flash drive, and they load right up so i can continue working (or give a PPT presentation) on a windows PC at school.
