IMAC 10.5.8 Leopard upgrade

I'm not sure which mouse you have, but assuming it's an older "Mighty Mouse" it's probably dirty inside. That particular mouse gets dirty very easily and is difficult to clean. What I suggest is not to use the Mighty Mouse but instead buy an inexpensive USB mouse such as the Logitech wired optical mouse or equivalent. It'll work fine with your iMac.

And check Mouse settings in System Preferences regarding right click, primary and secondary etc.
