help with apple script

hello im looking at my launchpad and the utilities (what I've named geeky stuff)
there is a thing called apple script. I've hers some stuff about it and i wold like to luck into it and see what it can do with it what it can be used for and a brief intro to it.
also what else can i do in geeky stuff?
