This will be real handy for me as my local Apple store is only 10 minutes from my home. We'll see how well this works when iPad 3 is released. ;D

This is awesome. Just ordered a time capsule on amazon. Maybe should just cancel and get it at the Apple
Store.

From what I read on engadget.com, it (currently) only works with accessories. Not items like iPads. They tried it out on an AE. Maybe more items will be allowed as time goes on?

Weird that you can just walk out of the store with a $180 USD item in hand. Perhaps there are security measures to prevent taking those items without paying. I guess there would have to be, right??

I think I read on MacWorld where Apple hopes this will expand to the complete line. However, I don't believe in the case of larger items such as a 27" iMac that delivery will only be a couple of days.

But I'm hopeful that items like an iPad 3 can be purchased on line and picked up within a few days. That sure would eliminate waiting on long lines for hot items like the iPhone and iPad.

Computers are kept in "back of house" and require a special inventory check out so of course people can't just pick up a box and go. There are no price tags on them and thus need to be scanned by a specialist etc... However, one can place an online order and have it ready for pickup when they get to the store. It's a very efficient process.

As far as the whole thing about going in and using the new apple store app to scan and walk out with stuff, it's a scary proposition IMO. Anything with a price tag can be scanned and walk out the door. Or....not scanned and walk just as easy. Apple is apparently losing its mind and just saying : "we trust you'll pay for our goods and not steal from us". Security looks the same as ever from what I can tell.
