iOS vulnerability leaving private photos, data at risk?

iphone4s-5.jpg
A researcher from computer security firm Accuvant claims to have unearthed a significant vulnerability in Apple's iOS operating system. The flaw allegedly leaves iOS devices open to malicious apps that pass through current App Store test criteria but allow hackers to upload unapproved commands. From remote servers, attackers can then access personal data, such as photos and messages, or instruct the device to play sounds or perform other functions....

That is why i do not get that many apps and if i do i only get the ones that have good reviews to be just a little safer. I think that apple should start letting companies like sophos start making antivirus programs for iOS devices. People were saying macs can't get viruses and now a few are showing up for the mac, i think that is what is going to happen to iOS as well.

I used to have over 300+ apps on my iPod touch until the iOS 5 update. Afterwards I only downloaded what I needed.

An employee of a company seeking to sell security software found a problem. There's a surprise. I love how they newer bother to asses the likelihood of these flaws being exploited...

Oh really? please site your sources for these viruses. As of now, there are zero self propagating viruses for OS X. The only form of a "virus" we've seen thus far (for OS X) has been a couple of amateur ranking bits of malware in the form of fake update UI's (Adobe Flash) and and fake Finder windows warning of a "virus" in order to get recent Windows switchers to click on said UI and capture their credit card numbers. No experienced Mac user would fall for such things. Not even with very little experience.

I'd hardly call these things a danger if one uses common sense, such as not entering an administrator password just because a pop up tells you to all willy nilly. The real danger was/is in Safari preferences and having that "open safe downloads" check box ticked. Dumbest thing ever, and I don't quite understand the need for such a thing in a browser. Outside of that... where are these viruses?
