Hello everybody,
last week my 2009 20" iMac went from a beautifully silent machine to a noisy vacuum cleaner.
iStat Pro clocked the ODD fan at 6000 rpm and the HDD fan also at 6000 rpm. This was with an idle machine and just switched on, no heavy apps or time to warm up.
I tried the SMC reset. No change. Reset the PRAM. No change.
Looked around in the net, saw that other folks had similar problems with 2009 iMacs and installed ssd fan control. The HD fan went immediately to a more reasonable 1000 rpm. However, the ODD fan stayed at 6000 rpm.
Does anyone know how to get the ODD fan under control. I think this may be a faulty temperature read... the fan goes full blast immediately after I switch on the iMac, it has not time to get hot.
Ah, I forgot to day that I live in China and previous experience taught me that taking my machine to the Apple store is a waste of time.
Thank you for helping.
Mauri
