How to deal with: your startup disk is almost full

Hey, I'd like to ask how to deal with this notification. I don't have nearly any pictures, videos or songs on my macbook ( i'm using an external hard drive ) but it's so slow and there's still this notification. I would appreciate any help. Thanks a lot!
