HI.

My Mac is currently running on OS X Lion 10.4.11, when I try to sync my Ipod I'm told that I need Itunes version 10 or later.

I've downloaded Itunes 10.5 but when I try to open it I get the message "open failed" couldn't open "install Itunes pkg". This package type requires Mac OS X 10.5.

How do i get from Lion 10.4.11 to OS X 10?

thanks,

Stewart

10.4.11 is Tiger not Lion. Lion is 10.7. What again are your machines specs? CPU speed and RAM especially.

Lion is $29 from the App store but you need 10.6 to download it.

Mac OSX 10.5 is Leopard, which is the one that came after Tiger(10.4). You will probably have to look somewhere like ebay to get a copy. Make sure that you get one like this:

and not one like this which is tied to a specific computer:

I changed your threads title as 10.4 is not Lion and might confuse people trying to help.

Since you have a Power PC G4 and not an Intel Mac, 10.5.8 Leopard is the latest OS you can update to. What Mighty Gem stated above is right on. You need Leopard 10.5 Retail DVD. Do not get a Gray DVD as they are system specific and will not work on your machine.

Leopard since it's the last OSX that will run on a Power PC is very much in Demand. I would check Ebay but be sure it is a Black full Retail DVD. It's probably not going to be cheap. Just a warning!
