New iMac user has a couple questions

Probably really simple things, but if you don't know, not so simple!
i have some files on jump drives and cds and when i insert them into my iMac they don't show up on my hard drive like on my old mac. Where can i find them?

When you put a thumb drive or cd in it should still be showing up in the Finder. Click on finder and the sidebar should show the name of the drive or cd. Just click the name and on the right the files should show. You can also enable them to show on your desktop each time if you want as well. Open the Finder then at the top select Finder > Preferences > General and select the box for the items (External Drives, CD, etc.) that you want to show on the desktop when they are mounted.
