MacBook Pro -with 8GB memory capability?

Hello,

I currently have a MacBook Pro, with 4Gb of ram memory installed.

I'm pretty new to the "World of Apple/Mac", therefore, I'm not 100% sure of the total description of my laptop's specs and upgrade specs? -
(I bought it used / but it is new to me.)

The specs from the 'advertisement' when I purchased it read as follows:

For Sale 15in Macbook Pro late 2007 version.

Very Good Condition always well looked after.

New Fastmac Battery (battery life is about 3 hours)

2.4GHz Intel Core Duo Processor

4GB RAM

160GB hard drive

Sorry no box, discs. Just laptop and power cord as is.

Here are the specs on the this MBP

MacBook Pro (Late 2007, 2.4/2.2GHz) - Technical Specifications

So, MY original question (yes I am finally getting to asking it):

What is the model of the MacBook Pro - that was first capable of supporting and using all 8GB of its ram memory?

I ultimately, would really like a laptop, that supports and accepts 8GB (or more of memory)?

Thanks for everyones help, comments, and suggestions / answers,

Have a nice day / evening,

Ed

Your machine according to Apple can only accept 4 GB of memory, however, Mactracker says you can install 6 GB. All the late model MacBook Pro machines can accept 8 GB. The 2011 models can accept up to 16 GB.

Hello,

So then, to "try" to use 6GB, does that mean I install:

1 - 2GB Stick
1 - 4GB Stick

That totals 6GB, or - Does it mean I need to install 2 - 4GB each sticks, yet the computer can only "see" / use 6GB of that total 8GB?

What would be the starting models of the 8GB capable laptops?

2008, 2009, 2010 models?

Thanks!,

Ed

You would install 1 x 4 GB + 1 x 2 GB = 6 GB. The 2009 and 2010 models can accept 8 GB, and the 2011 - 16 GB.

Hi chscag, If I may allowed to ask a question in this thread?...
All the late model MacBook Pro machines can accept 8 GB. The 2011 models can accept up to 16 GB.

Can one put 2 x 8GB RAM sticks on the latest Mac Book Pro? Are there such compatible RAM sticks available at "CRUCIAL"?

[The Manual on Apple suggests Maximum 8GB & the Intel site on the i7 suggests would support 32GB. Link: Intel® Core)

Would Apple allow maximum 32GB RAM with latest firmware or the MOBO would not support more than the 16GB ever?

Just your knowledge on the above would help a lot of us on this forum following this thread.

Regards

Currently, the firmware and chipset will only support 16 GB. And yes, you would need 2 x 8 GB modules which would be expensive.

This is what Other World Computing here in the US is charging for the 16 GB upgrade kit: 16GB Kit (8GB x 2) $594.99
