is it possible to switch out the power suply that comes in the g3 with another power suplly that has a higher voltage so instead of the standard 240 you can use one that is 300w?

Yes and it's not voltage you want to increase its the power capacity of the power supply. How many amps it can supply for each different voltage level required by the MB.
Power supplies typically generate 5VDC and other voltage levels are derived from that source, increased, decreased or inverted as necessary. +5vdc is the greatest requirement so it gets the lions share of a power supplies capacity. Replacing the PS with a higher wattage unit is not simple and requires advanced PS electrical knowledge. You might be able to find some help on this particular subject by searching around the internet.
