it was easy in windows..

but having put photoshop and office for mac on my iMac, I've got directories in my documents folders relevant to those applications

now thats fine but it makes the place look messy... I don't want to move or delete then as I'm assuming they're required by their app's.

Is there a way I can just hide them, so there still there just not visible and making my documents folder looking like I need to run the hoover round

lol

cheers

Right click on folder/s select properties check box for hidden. I stand corrected this does not work may have my OS's mixed up vansmith's terminal command is the correct way.

There are two ways to do this.

1. Rename the folder and put a '.' in front. This will hide the folder but, as you can see, it changes the name. If that works for you, getting to it simply requires that you push Shift-Command-G and type in the directory name.

2. You can use the "chflags" tool from the command line. Simply input the following to hide a directory:
Code:
chflags hidden <path to directory>
and the following to unhide it:
Code:
chflags nohidden <path to directory>

Thank you for your help

when I try to put a '.' in front, I get this error

You can’t use a name that begins with a dot “.”, because these names are reserved for the system. Please choose another name.

and if I'm honest I've no idea how to use 'chflags'

Open up Terminal (/Applications/Utilities) and type the following:
Code:
chflags hidden
Make sure there is a space at the end of that. Next, open Finder and find the folder you want to hide. Drag it from the Finder onto the Terminal window. You should now have something that looks similar to the following:
Code:
chflags hidden <directory name>
Hit enter and voila!
