range extending???

new to the forum so please bare with me. I currently live in a apartment and the wifi signal happens to be poor on my complex..ya i know lucky me. i have a white macbook and was think what is the best way to get a better signal range without the access of the router?

airport extender?
wireless n usb adapter?
