External Monitor TV for 2010 13" Mac Book Pro

I have looked at 2 TVs at Best Buy around $230 for my 13" Mc Book Pro. Would anyone recommend one over the other, or something different in the same price range?

(1) Toshiba 24" Class LED 1080p 60 hz HDTV 24SL410U
(2) Samsung 22" Class LED 1080p 60 hz HDTV U22D5000NFXZA

Going off brand name only - no doubt in my mind - Toshiba - they have been making some nice screens for years. That particular other brand is not allowed in my home.

Amongst brand names to look at with that screen size, I would also suggest looking at Panasonic, Sony and Hitachi. May not be able to find a Hitachi in that price range though - haven't kept up with them the last couple of years, but they use to be among the top tier quality wise related to monitors.

I'd suggest when you find one you want, compare the price at Amazon and newegg before spending your money at BB.

Yes, and I'm far from the only one. Admittedly they make some nice equipment. Just hope you never, ever, need to call their customer support. You've never experienced a run around until you talk to them - they are absolutely the worst in the business.

I spent 6 months with a non-working $1,000 unit. It took me 3 months to get above the 1st tier support. After 6 months of waiting for them to fix it, they told me my options were to continue waiting or accept a model that was priced at $500 in exchange and no consideration for the price difference for the model I had bought.

There are other brands that I personally wouldn't purchase, but that is the only manufacturer of goods that is not allowed in my house .

OMG!! That is horrible.

Curious - What was the problem you had with the Samsung TV? When did it happen?

Really - model, issue and time frame are irrelevant. Suffice it to say, you can verify the state of their customer support has not changed by heading to Amazon and reading reviews of their products looking for those that have had to call support. You will find similar horror stories (ex.: remote doesn't work and taking 3 months plus to get a replacement). This is the one issue with that brand, but it is a significant one.

I purchased the Toshiba, and have noticed a couple things. No problem with volume, however my macbook pro has frozen a couple times, and the screen went blank, and had to be rebooted. I've never had this happen before. It even felt like it got a little warm. If I didn't have Monitor mirroring on, I couldn't play Return to Castle Wolfenstein on the Toshiba, only on the Mac Book Pro. Wignuts asked, so I could play it on the Toshiba. Turning mirroring off, let me set each monitor differently. Any thoughts?
