• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I am trying to save a bunch of old svhs tapes. I have purchased this i grabber digtizer which I thought worked but it will only record to the computer and not an external hard drive- which is no good for me. Now I am thinking that I will purchase a vhs-dvd combo player/recorder to duplicate. But I am weary of doing that too because I have read reviews stating that the dvd copy will not play in other players- and I would like it be able to work in my macbook.. I am aware that dvd-R format is not so good, so I am hoping to purchase a combo player that does both the + and the - formats and that the + will work in my macbook.. Any help or thoughts is appreciated..thanks

Your Mac's Specs
20" Intel iMac 2.4 Ghz/3G Ram/320HD, Snow Leopard. PBook G4, 1.5Ghz/1.5 Ram/250 HD, Leopard 10.5.6.
Buy the dvd recorder, it's the cheapest and best way to do this by far.
I have never had a copy not play, unless you fail to finalise it.
The Macbook will be fine with them, I'm certain (just use a good brand of disc) and if it doesn't play that disc, you can allways drag and drop the VIDEO_TS folder to your desktop and burn a new disc.
