My computer won't shut down

Hi,

I seem to be having trouble with TextEdit, which won't quit. I have tried repeatedly to quit by going to the icon and clicking quit, or command-Q, nothing works. Everytime I try to shut down or restart it tells me that I need to close TextEdit first. Why won't it quit, and how can I force quit?

Click on the Apple in far left corner and scroll to Force Quit and a second box will open
up with all that are open select Text Edit after doing this I would run Repair Disk Permissions.
