sound issues

We have a Macpro - and whilst editing in Premier the audio has suddenly quit (gone mute)...there is no sound either from external speakers or internal speaker. All preferences are as expected..and the audio slider functions and is fully up. Any suggestions. Done the obvious restart..reset PRAM etc. Still no luck.
