upgrade frm 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard

All, tried to upgrade my imac (with intel processor) to Snow Leopard over the weekend. Backed up and removed all my files. Set it running last night and it was still running this morning. It restarts and then comes up with image of a wireless mouse and 'suggests' closing the mouse aperture. After that the wheel just keeps on turning. Any ideas? Is it possible to do a 'hard reset' on the imac
