So my 2008 Mac Book is dead. It was blessed with the "gray screen of death" :'(. So I just got my new Mac Book and I wanted to know how I can transfer my data from my old HD to my new HD. And suggestions?

Do you have a Time Machine backup of your old macBook? If not, you need to determine if the data on your old drive is still accessible.

How would I be able to test if the data is still accessible if I have the gray screen?

By removing the hard drive from the MacBook and use a USB SATA carrier to place the drive in. The drive will then be like an external hard drive which can be attached to your new Mac or any other Mac. If the data can be accessed, that's the way to do it.
