What happens in Partitioning?

No it will operate as if you have two hard drives installed is all.

Your system is ever going to be as fast as the processing speed and system bus speed basically.

what is the benefit of partitioning my hard drive? does using external hard drive for project files in editing video can make the editing process fast?

Coming from the windows world which is known for crashes and losing important information; partitioning was very bennificial because it helped protect some files.

If you had to format or reinstall the OS your files in the secondary partition would have been safe. It doesn't speed up your system but what it will do is limit the number of files your cpu has to sort through when processing or opening files.

Now in the Mac world and out of old habit I did partition my hard drive and my MBP does "seem" to run faster/smoother.
