Would like some feedback on anti virus software. There appears to be plenty of software out there with widely varying prices etc. Would like to know what other users of Lion 10.7 recommend or use. Do not mind paying a one time fee for my iMac and macbook but of course would prefer not to. Have received a lot of e-mail from Mackeeper and note that apparently Mafee and Norton also have packages for OSX?

Rule one do not buy any of it.

If you feel you must have antivirus software, coming no doubt from the Windows world, download and use ClamXAV which is a free program. On Windows if you install on your Macs, use Microsoft Security Essentials, also freeware.

Stay well and truly away from Mackeeper which is crapware and will do more harm than good.

Having said all this, most experienced Mac users here do not use any antivirus software as there are no Mac OS X viruses, just a few malware hacks so safe browsing practices are the best defence.

If you use Safari, go into Preferences > General and make sure the 'Open safe files' at the foot is NOT selected.
