what is the windows equivalent of looking up a shared directory on Mac osX? On windows I click start, run, type \\192.168.1.1 and all shared folders of that windows PC will populate. I have SMB turned on and sometimes in finder it will show my shared windows pc's but other times it will not. Can I go to terminal or somewhere and type \\ipaddress and force Mac osX to pull up the windows shared folders?

With the Finder selected press "Command+k" - a connect dialog box comes up. Type in:

smb://servername_or_ip-address

It might ask you to enter user name/password to access the server. After that you should see a window where you can select the shared drive/folder.

On my machine here it can take 1-2 minutes from pressing command+k until the shared folder is actually available. So quite some time...

Hope that helps!
