accidentally removed my WD external hd from the usb port without ejecting it from the desktop first. then i got this message the next time i tried to use it "Disk Repair- the disk "my passport" was not repairable by this computer.it is being made available to you with limited functionality. you must back up your data and reformat the disk as soon as possible." What does this mean and what am i supposed to do? its got all my music and photos from the past 5 years and it would suck to lose this. help!

It means that your WD drive probably has damaged files and folders from you removing it without ejecting. What you need to do is repair the drive (if it can be repaired) with special software.

Disk Warrior is expensive ($99) but it works well. Here is the LINK.
