How do I setup Mail to automatically delete messages from my email server after they have been downloaded?

The depends on how your account is set up. Are you using IMAP or POP to retrieve your mail? Who's your provider?

Which one? Some have settings for this. In GMail for instance, under "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" in the settings, you can tell GMail to delete emails when they are retrieved.

I am in the process of changing over to an Imac from a PC for most of my work. Outlook on the PC is set for POP/SMTP. Outlook deletes mail after download. My Imac and Iphone do not. I want to keep the Iphone as is. I want the Imac to delete mail from the server after download. The server is located on one of our own webpages. It is hosted by a local ISP.

I don't use POP but this should work: Mail > Preferences > Accounts > click you POP account > Advanced > there should be a removal option here.
