Good morning

Working on my gf's computer, trying to get 10.6 installed. I upgraded the hard drive in my mid 09 13" MBP, and reinstalled 10.6. Using the same media I did the following:
1)Erased the drive using disk utility
2)Verified the disk using disk utility
3)Started the install of 10.6

It gets right to the end, then gives the following error message. "Install Failed. Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer. The installer could not start up the computer from the disk "Untitled". Try selecting your disk using the Startup Disk utility. Click Restart to restart your computer and try installing again."

More about this computer. Logic board is new within 18 months. Hard drive is new after 12 months.

Anyone have any thoughts? Sorry for the long post, wanted to include as much info as possible.

Thanks

Are you using a retail copy of the Snow Leopard OS disk or trying to install from a copy from a Mac that came with Snow Leopard on it?
If so, the OS disks that ship with Macs are machine specific and will not install on a different model Mac.

Hi Razor

Thanks for responding. Using a retail copy of Snow Leopard. Its really frustrating, as doesnt seem to be any reason for it. As for the error about discs being locked to certain machines, it should happen really early in the install cycle, not at the end, after the install is all done though right?

Sounds like either wrong or dirty/scratched disc. Also try the disc in a different machine as laptops have a very high optical drive failure rate. No doubt from being slot loaders.

Hi Harry

Thanks for responding. Could it be the drive failure when the install gets to the end and then errors out? The fact that it says installer could not start from the hard drive suggests something more, but I could be out to lunch. What are my options if it is the optical drive?

Thanks
